Weekly Round Up

Out of everything weird and wonderful I read, watched and listened to this week you will find all of my favourite finds right here. Everything from the song that I’ve been listening to on repeat to a stupid meme that made me laugh.

Glitter Booty Trend

To start off with I honestly thought this was the most ridiculous thing ever but then I thought about it for a bit and I kinda love it. Girls with sand on their butts is thought to be super sexy so why not completely revamp it with every girls best friend: GLITTER!!

Obviously it isn’t exactly the sort of trend that ordinary people can pull off but Instagram glitter booty is just fabulous!

I read about this trend on Mashable and feel free to read about it HERE. If you want to give this  trend a go then apply some hair gel and then simply pop on a crazy amount of glitter.

Too Faced Glitter Bomb Palette

This weekly round up wasn’t supposed to be completely glitter related but it’s a happy coincidence that so much glitter is happening in one week.

Too Faced have announced a brand spanking new eyeshadow palette made up of glitter and nothing but glitter. You won’t even have to wait that long for it either with its release expected in June.

With eight different colours, ranging from hot pink to pastel blue there is a little something for everyone. Better get ready to sparkle like the unicorn you are.

Drag Queens and Make Up Remover

I just happened to stumble upon this video on cosmopolitan and it had me in stitches at some points. Not only does it showcase just how fabulous Urban Decays Makeup Meltdown Products are but it also makes you laugh so really it’s a win win situation.

Not sure if you can completely trust that its an honest review of the products since it’s produced by Urban Decay but I don’t even care. If it can take drag queen make up off then I am pretty sure it can take my tinted moisturiser off.  If you fancy giving it a watch then you will find the video here.

Red Sky July

Getting introduced to new bands is one of my favourite things. I just love music, especially country music so hearing that theres a fabulous band out there that I haven’t listened to yet gets my heart racing.

My boss introduced me to Red Sky July after finding out I have a soft spot for Marty Stuart and he was definitely right in thinking I would like them. I love soft harmonies and simply played acoustic guitar layered with intricate pluck patterns. Anything with a country vibe and I’m listening to it. If you would like to give them a listen you can find everything you need on their website.

Surprise Motivational Push

I was sitting eating a Toffee Crisp in bed with my hair up in one of those messy buns you hope looks sexy but you know it looks like you haven’t washed in four days when this little gem popped up. A little reminder that if you don’t work for something then you aren’t going to achieve anything.

So I got up out of bed and I went for a run. I ran for twenty minutes and then sat down and wrote this blog post. It was just that little push I needed to make myself do something with my night. Isn’t it strange that words can do that. Normally it’s an image of a tanned, beautifully skinny Instagram model that makes me cry and work out. Not this time. There were no tears and I worked off my Toffee Crisp so it was a winning situation all round.

This gorgeous fitness model is not like all the others. She recently posted an image about body angles and how fitness models use them to their advantage. On one side she was showing how she would pose to show her best angles and in the other she stood like she would normally. Highlighting that ‘perfect’ is just an illusion.

She fabulously captures how comparing your body to Instagram gals is nothing more than a way to make yourself hate your body. It’s not even possible to look like that in everyday life. You can’t have perfect lighting, angles and the right clothes all the time. Its impossible to reach these Instagram standards and it was actually really cool of her to remind us of that.

Easter Treats: Creme Egg Fudge

Fudge, creme eggs and mini eggs all in one fantastic recipe, what more could you want this Easter? This recipe from Great British Chefs is actually super easy yet really, really yummy.

Creme eggs have become an Easter staple and with this recipe making 65 pieces of fudge, there will be enough for everyone this Easter. Just throw any of those squashed eggs into this fudge recipe and they will be as good as new.

  • 200ml of semi skimmed milk
  • 200ml of double cream
  • 700g of sugar, white
  • 160g of butter
  • 6 Creme Eggs, smashed
  • 12 mini chocolate eggs, lightly crushed (optional)
  1. Line an 8” / 20cm square cake tin or gratin dish with foil (I like using parchment backed foil and lightly oil it)
  2. Place the milk, cream, sugar and butter into a large pan and bring to a gentle simmer
  3. Allow to cook until the mixture reaches the soft ball stage, or 115°C on a sugar thermometer (I have an electronic one with an alarm that beeps at the correct temperature)
  4. Remove from the heat and allow to cool for a few minutes
  5. Beat with an electric mixer on a slow speed (or by hand if you are feeling strong) for about 5 minutes, until the mixture starts to thicken and looks matt rather than glossy
  6. Stir in the smashed Creme Eggs with a wooden spoon – aim to distribute them throughout the fudge so you have a marbled effect, rather than letting them melt completely
  7. Pour the mixture into the prepared tin and scatter the crushed mini eggs over and gently press them into the fudge (if using them) to decorate. Allow to cool, then pop into the fridge for a few hours to firm up before cutting into bite sized pieces

Thoughts of the week: Beauty and the Beast

I went to see Beauty and the Beast on Saturday night with Kelly from work. Before she asked me to go I was planning on boycotting the whole thing because I don’t think they should remake a movie if the original was a complete dream.

Every girl has a childhood disney movie that they were obsessed with and for me that movie was Beauty and the Beast. I loved it. I had the mirror and the outfit and the Belle doll. I literally, watched it to death, knew all the words to all the songs and used to dance around the living room in my costume like I was in the movie. So you can imagine how I didn’t want to ruin the whole idea of Beauty and the Beast by going to see some rubbish knock off.

How wrong I was. From the very first song I had goose bumps and they honestly didn’t go until the movie ended. It was just as magical as the original and thats coming from a hardcore fan. The songs were spot on and the arrangements around the songs were exactly like the original. In my eyes they could not have gotten the movie more spot on.

Emma Watson was a fabulous Belle. Sure she doesn’t have the strongest voice in the world but she was lovely to listen to and to watch. She really is a fabulous actress. The beast was strangely good looking for a beast and the animation throughout the entire thing was gorgeous. There was one point where they go back to Belles home when she was a baby and the scene was just so heart wrenchingly sad and yet so beautifully done. I still have a love/ hate relationship with Gaston, how can I love a character who is just so selfish and evil? I’ll never understand.

They just stayed so true to the original. They didn’t mess around with it, they just kept it the way it was. Which for me was the right way to remake it. Hats off to them because it is definitely up there with the original for me and I imagine it’s keeping lots of other girls in their 20s childhoods alive.

Put Your Trainers Back On.

For about a year now my running trainers have been collecting dust at the back of my wardrobe. I used to run a good eight miles a day but that was years ago. I forgot how much I loved it and started putting it off to do literally anything else.

However, tonight on the way home I saw an older man out running. He could barely lift his feet off the pavement and yet he kept going. It got me thinking, if he can do it then I have no excuse big enough not to.

So, you want to know what I did? I came home, grabbed my dusty trainers from under a pile of shoes I forgot I had and ran a mile and a half. I am a keen believer that you should always find time for the things that make you feel alive and after that run tonight I do actually feel really good about myself. It gives you time to clear your head and just breath deep. Running is really just one step after the other and it doesn’t sound that hard when you put it like that.

So I am currently sitting with my feet up with a massive cup of green tea in my hand, feeling fabulous and kinda hoping that I might have just taken the first step to my Majorca body.

Easter Treats: Creme Egg Rocky Road

With easter around the corner it brings with it one of the greatest easter treats out; creme eggs. This month I am going to share some of the best easter recipes I can find on the web. Everything from rocky road to cheesecake.

I can safely say that my March goals are not going in the direction I hoped they would. Giving up chocolate completely is hard. However, cutting out chocolate a little bit at a time is easy. That is why i don’t feel as  bad sharing this fabulous creme egg rocky road recipe by Taming Twins.

  • 150g Unsalted butter
  • 250g Dark chocolate, chopped
  • 150g Milk chocolate, chopped
  • 4 Tablespoons Golden syrup
  • 180g Mini Creme Eggs, unwrapped
  • 180g Mini marshmallows
  • 150g Digestive biscuits, crushed into chunks
  • 150g White chocolate, chopped
  • Yellow gel food colouring
  • 8 Creme Eggs (full size, unwrapped)
  1. Melt the butter in a large pan over a low heat.cadburys-creme-egg-rocky-road
  2. When it’s about half melted, add the dark chocolate, the milk chocolate.and the golden syrup.Over a very low heat, continue to melt it all. Stir until it’s thick and well combined.
  3. Remove from the heat and set
aside for 10 minutes until it’s cooled slightly.
  4. Add the mini Creme Eggs, the marshmallows and the digestive biscuits, stir until everything is well coated.
  5. Line a 20cm x 20cm baking tin with baking paper and press the mixture firmly in.
  6. Meanwhile melt the white chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of steaming water. Make sure you keep the temperature very low as white chocolate can seize easily.creme-egg-rock-road-recipe
  7. Take half of the melted chocolate and put in another small bowl, colour until very deep yellow using the gel food colour, just a very small amount at a time.
  8. Drizzle the white chocolate and the coloured white chocolate over the rocky road, cut the full size Creme Eggs in half and sit in the chocolate, pressing in firmly.
  9. Allow to set in the fridge for at least a couple of hours.
  10. Turn out of the tin and cut into small chunks using a very sharp knife.

Finally this fabulous recipe also comes with some handy tips to ensure your rocky road turns out just like in the picture and tastes exactly how it should.

  • Make sure you do melt the butter slightly before adding the chocolate, this stops the chocolate from burning.
  • Only use a very, very low heat. Or the chocolate, butter, syrup mixture will seize and go grainy.
  • Make sure you do allow it to cool before adding anything else or the mini Creme Eggs and the marshmallows will melt. Still tasty but not quite as pretty.
  • If the slab is too hard to cut straight out of the fridge, allow to come to room temperature for 30 minutes.

Buy Less, Choose Well

If I don’t absolutely love it then I don’t buy it. It is as simple as that. I have never been one of those girls who can splurge all their money on clothes they don’t need or even necessarily want.

If you look in my wardrobe you will see clothes that are worn to death. Most of them have patch jobs, fraying stitches, jeans with rips at the thighs and I am perfectly happy with my wardrobe the way it is.

I have a rule that I don’t buy clothing unless I absolutely need it. I don’t know if I will always be like this. I might just be tight with my cash because I don’t have much. But for now I feel perfectly happy with saving my pennies for memories rather than things.

Sounds lame but do what Rebecca Bloomwood does in Confessions of a Shopaholic, ask yourself do you need it. I constantly ask myself do I need it the entire time I am shopping and nearly all of the time the answer is no I don’t. However, I do need a car and I do want to move in with my boyfriend. Looks like I am going to have to turn those ripped jeans into shorts, just cut those fraying stitches off and didn’t you know? That patch is supposed to be there.

I feel that fashion should be about buying less and choosing well. Anyone can buy clothes, it’s what you do with them that makes it interesting.
